Read Anything Good Lately?

Summer is now in full swing (can you believe how hot it's been?), and for many of you, I hope that means you've had time to catch up on your reading. Based on how many of you have been playing our Goulish Game Board, and have contributed to our GIANT Ice Cream Cone, I know that there are a lot of you out there who have been reading.

So now my question is, what have you read? In the comments, please feel free to share some of your favorite summer reads - and make sure to let us know why you liked them!

The Red Pyramid
Hey Everybody - I think you probably know that Rick Riordan is a great writer of action-based books featuring Greek Gods, Goddesses, and Demigods etc… but did you know he has a new series out?
I just read the first in his new series which is called the Kane Chronicles. The first book is the Red Pyramid and features .. You guessed it… Egyptian Gods, Goddesses and more!
I really loved the book which features Carter Kane, age 14 and his sister Sadie Kane, age 12. The two sibs are not exactly friendly having lived apart for quite awhile but they prove to be a daunting pair after realizing they are descendents of Ancient Egyptians, Magicians and Pharaohs.
I think Lightning Thief fans will love this new series and I think it has future movie written all over it!
I’d love to hear from kids who have read both the Lightning Thief and The Red Pyramid. Which one did you like better?

The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones

Rick Riordan seems to be on fire right now - first with Percy Jackson, and now with his new series, the Kane Chronicles. Did you know he also wrote The Maze of Bones, the first book in the 39 Clues series? With the final installment coming out at the end of August, I decided it was finally time to check this series out for myself. I am now totally hooked!

Upon the death of their grandmother, Amy and Dan Cahill discover that they are members of one of the world's most influential families. In her will, their grandmother left each family member one million dollars (!!!) OR the first in a series of clues (39 to be exact) that have the potential to lead the follower to extreme greatness. The catch? There can only be one winner. Amy and Dan, along with many of their family choose to follow the clues, and now it's a race to see who will solve them first. Along the way, Amy and Dan jump from one nail-biting-edge-of-your-seat adventure to another: you never know what they might encounter next!

Rick Riordan kicks the series off extremely well, and is followed up by some other amazing authors: Gordon Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, and Margaret Peterson Haddix, to name just a few. With so many different authors contributing to the series, I was worried that each book would "feel" different, but I was happy to discover that I was completely wrong. Mystery lovers and fans of action-packed adventure should be sure to check this series out.

For those of you who have been reading the series, what do you think? Are you as hooked as I am?
